I am new to flyfishing and tying. My questions is... If you could only have one fly with you on the Au Sable in early June. Which one would you take. The best one for a newbie...

Thanks

The BEST fly I've ever had luck with is also one of the most simple flies to tie, and there are so many variations with the color that you can use it all year for trout.

Soft-hackle nymphs.

You can make it with a bead head, or add copper wire to the body to get it down, or let it sink with no weight and you'll catch fish. I've caught everything from 6-inch brook trout to 22-inch Rainbows and browns.

Here's what they look like.
