Grand River Ontario Guides Come to Town!

Fly Fishing Destinations release writes "The Grand River in Ontario is one of the best places to fish for Browns and Rainbows on Dry Flies! This Saturday February the 15th John Valk and Joe Penich will be at the Shop in Royal Oak to let us in on this spectacular fishery!

They will be here from about 11:00am untli 5:00 pm to present us with information on what this fishery is like. This is an event you wont want to miss!

John will be doing a presentation around 2:00 pm and will enlighten us on some of the finer details of the river. He will also go through some of the highlights of Flymarts' annual trips to the Grand River in Ontario!

Owner of Grindstone Angling, head river guide and outfitter. John has been fly fishing and guiding for more than 30 years and can teach you anything from the beginner levels of casting to advanced stages of double hauling for distance or the right presentation to fool any wary trout or steelhead. He spends over 200 days a year on the water and can work any casting situation to produce a positive outcome for his clients or students. John is also a professional licensed guide in British Columbia and Alberta and chases trout and migratory species all over Canada. In 2001 he was a member of the championship casting team for the Paul Young sporting flies event in Michigan.

Along with John, Joe Penich will be on hand tying some of his famous flies all day long. If your a fly tyer you will want to be available for this demonstration and perhaps try your hand at one of his flies!

Joe is known by many as one of the most innovative flytyers in Canada. A testament to this is the number of custom fly orders he ties each year for Grindstone's customers and for the guides of the shop. Joe is also one our professional guides and hosts trips to the river in the spring and fall each year for steelhead and salmon. He is our resident steelhead specialist and Joe's experience catching these elusive fish with his own variation of techniques is supported by the number of steelhead landed and released each year. Joe's clients end each trip with a wealth of ideas and new techniques for fly fishing steelhead or salmon and a healthy respect for the fight of these great fish.

To view some of Joe's flies just look in our photo gallery.

This is an event you won't want to miss!
