Mason Tract - Michigan DEQ Status

    Regional Conservation News

About a month ago I inquired the DEQ in Michigan as to the status of the Mason Tract Drilling Permit seeked by Savoy Energy. Here is the DEQ response I recieved

    Hi Jeff,
Your note was forwarded to me for reply. The DEQ issued a permit to drill the USA & State South Branch 1-8 to Savoy Energy LP on 11/26/03. This site is not on the Mason Tract but approximately 1655' east of it and nearly 3000' east of the Au Sable.

See attached fact sheet for more information about the permit. They still need to get a permit from the federal Bureau of Land Management and from the US Forest Service. The estimate I heard at the end of last year was it would take about 6 months to acquire these permits. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

    Regards,
    Thomas Wellman,
    Geological and Land Management Division,
    DEQ 517-242-1530

Now I was happy to get a response from the DEQ and thank Thomas for sharing the info. Below is a link to the document sent to me. I have converted it to a PDF file for you so you can read it too. - Jeff
