Lake St Clair is mostly famous for fly fishing for smallmouth bass, pike, and musky. However, fly fishing for carp on the sand flats is drawing lots of attention as well. Lake St Clair, which is located near Detroit Michigan, between Lake Huron and Lake Erie, is an excellent place to experience this up and coming fishery. In the last few years fly fishing for carp has become the fastest growing craze amongst fly fisherman in America. Many anglers now look at this stereotyped "garbage" fish in a new, and positive, sporting way. In Europe the carp has been prized as a game fish for hundreds of years.

Whether you are in Michigan 's upper or Lower Peninsula , you won't have to travel far to take advantage of the incredible fishery and enjoy the bounty that exists in the spring.

A major part of Michigan brown trout fishing lore concerns a great night hatch, a hatch that brings out grandpa's fish from the twisted log jam by the cabin. You know, the fish he had wars with over the years, waders full of water, a lost hat and a six beer hike up the hill dragging a perfectly broken 6wt rod. It's telling stories like these while the snow is blowing sideways, drinking scotch and smoking cigars in the garage, that symbolize hex fishing in the Midwest.

Lake St Clair is world famous for its smallmouth bass and muskie, but there is also a very productive fishery for Lake St Clair northern pike. In the last few years smallmouth bass and musky have been receiving some huge publicity on this lake, but it seems in all this noise many people have forgotten about the northern pike. This is fine with me since I love fly-fishing for pike, and Lake St Clair is minutes from my home in suburban Detroit. Fly-fishing for this razor toothed voracious predator known as the water wolf is very thrilling. In this article I will share some of my favorite tactics and techniques for Lake St. Clair pike on the fly.
